Make A Recipe Book Using Microsoft Word

Make a Recipe Book Using Microsoft Word

A recipe book can be a great fundraising item. Classes, groups or organizations can gather favorite recipes, print and bind them into a book and sell them to raise money. Homemade recipe books can also be given for birthday, Christmas or other holiday gifts and become treasured heirlooms. Rather than paying an expensive printer to compile recipes and print them into a book, though, you can use Microsoft Word to make a recipe book that looks great.

Instructions

1. Open Microsoft Word. In Word 2007, click the Office button and then click New. In Word 2003 or earlier, select New from the File menu. Type recipe into the Search Microsoft Online box. Click Go.

2. Click Cookbook in the results from Office Online. Click the Download button. The recipe book template will open as a new Word document.

3. Select the Recipes text box by clicking the border around it. Type in a title for your recipe book. Change the picture on the cover, if desired, by clicking on the picture, going to the Insert tab (in Word 2007) or menu (in Word 2003 or earlier) and selecting a different picture.

4. Click the Chapters table on page 2. Enter titles for each chapter. Wait to enter the page numbers for the chapters until after all of the recipes have been entered in the book.

5. Type an introduction to the recipe book onto page 3. Begin typing recipes on page 4 until all of the recipes have been entered. Add an index at the end of the recipe book, listing recipes in alphabetical order. Go back to page 2 and enter the correct page numbers for all of the chapters.

6. Print the recipe book. Print the first page on its own, then print the remaining pages double-sided. Place the recipe book in a three-ring binder, staple the pages together or use another method to bind the pages (see Resources below).

Tips Warnings

Take pictures of completed recipes with a digital camera and use them to embellish the recipes.
