Things To Put In Church Bulletins

A bulletin is used by most churches every week to communicate with the congregation. Bulletins should be written in a format that relates all important information, but is not too wordy or confusing. This is especially important for elderly members or others who cannot come to church, but still want to know details about the worship services as well as see the prayer request list and other announcements.

Essential Information

There are basic items that should be printed in every bulletin. These include the church office phone number, pastor(s) phone numbers and office hours, and any other appropriate staff members' contact information.

The order of worship is an important part of the bulletin. This section not only helps the pastor and music minister stay on schedule, but it is essential to visitors, who may be uncomfortable in a new church. By having an itinerary, they will be able to participate and not just follow everybody else. Names and page numbers of hymns should be listed as well as any special singers or speakers for the service. Procedures for offerings and for such events as the administration of the Lord's Supper should be stated so visitors will know if they need to participate.

Special Events

Members and visitors need to be apprised of upcoming events. Churches should announce Baptismal services, church dinners or fundraisers at least a month in advance and run the announcement every week until it occurs. This way, if anyone misses a week or two, they will still be aware of what's happening at the church.

Inserts

Churches may have inserts to include in the bulletin periodically. These might be related to a specific ministry, such as information on a special missions offering. Some inserts may be devotional in style, such as an article from a famous Christian author. If a church has a prayer request list, it can be inserted into the bulletin every week or once a month as it is updated.
