Change The Washer On A Moen Onehandle Kitchen Faucet

A Moen one-handle faucet has a cartridge that contains the washer for both the hot and cold water. Thes cartridge can be replaced in a simple few-step process. When the washer needs changing, simply remove the cartridge and install a new one. This fast fix solves leaks and other issues with the faucet.


Instructions


1. Turn off the water to your Moen faucet.


2. Take out the screw in the handle of the faucet with an Allen wrench. The screw is at the base of single-lever faucets, or under a cap on top of the faucet handle. Pry off the cap to access the screw. Pull the handle off the faucet.


3. Remove the dome cap on top of the faucet head by turning it to the left. Remove the retainer nut by turning it to the left with a pair of channel lock pliers. Remove the retaining clip by sliding it out of the side of the faucet head.


4. Grasp the stem of the cartridge with a pair of pliers and slide the cartridge out of the faucet head. Insert the new cartridge in its place and press into the faucet head.


5. Rebuild the faucet by replacing the clip, retainer nut, dome cap and handle. Tighten all screws with the appropriate tools.
