Pergolas use wood posts that can be attached to concrete
When you plan to add a structure to your back patio, wood posts may need to be attached to a concrete slab. The best way to attach a wood post to concrete is to use a wood post mount or bracket. This is the typical way that a wood post is attached for structures such as pergolas to concrete. You will need to first secure the wood post bracket to the concrete and then secure the wood post to the bracket.
Instructions
1. Make a mark on the concrete for the location of the wood post mount.
2. Drill a pilot hole in the concrete for the wood post mount support bolt using the power drill. Place a masonry bit into the power drill and then drill a hole at least two inches into the concrete.
3. Place the wood post mount over the hole and then insert the support bolt.
4. Secure the wood post mount to the concrete by tightening the bolt with the socket wrench. Turn the socket wrench to the right to tighten the bolt.
5. Place the post into the wood support mount.
6. Secure the post to the wood post mount with screws using the power drill. Place a screw into one of the screw holes on the wood post mount and tighten it. You will need to add four screws on each side of the wood post mount.
7. Repeat this process for each wood post that you need to attach to the concrete.
Tips Warnings
If you do not want to use screws, a hammer and nails can be used to secure the post to the wood post mount.
If the support bolt is not completely secured in the concrete the wood post could come loose.
