Create A Hawaiian Theme Christmas Tree

Add a tropical flare to a traditional Christmas tree with Hawaiian themed decorations. Make your own Hawaiian themed ornaments from old fashioned salt dough and inexpensive party supplies. Even if you can't go on a Hawaiian vacation, you can bring the vacation to you!

Instructions

Make Hawaiian Themed Ornaments

1. Mix together 2 cups of flour and 1 cup of salt in a mixing bowl.

2. Add gradually 1 cup of water to the four mixture until it becomes the consistency of bread dough.

3. Knead the dough on a floured surface until it becomes smooth.

4. Roll the dough out to approximately 1/8 inch thick.

5. Cut out Hawaiian themed shapes using cookie cutters in the shape of palm trees, surfboards and orchids, for example, and make a hole in the top of each cut-out, using the end of a drinking straw.

6. Bake for one hour or until dry at 325 degrees. Cool completely before painting.

7. Use acrylic paints to decorate the cookie ornaments and embellish with beads, sequins, buttons, feathers and a ribbon tied at the top to hang each ornament once the paint has dried.

Purchase Hawaiian Themed Decorations

8. Buy multicolored lights and string on your tree.

9. Purchase faux flower leis to make a tropical garland by attaching the faux flower leis together.

10. Get tropical flavored candy canes on the tree, such as pina colada, coconut, tangerine, and lemon-lime, then hang them on your tree.

11. Pick up a grass skirt from a party supply store and use it as your tree skirt.

12. Top your tree with a bouquet of tropical flowers, such as orchids and lilies.

13. Wrap all your gifts in brightly colored Hawaiian-themed wrapping paper.
