Typing Exercises

Typing exercises are designed to boost speed.

Many jobs and career paths require good typing skills as they involve some element of working on a computer. The current job market needs people who can type fast and accurately without the need for additional training after being hired. Many ways exist to improve your typing skills. Practice regular typing exercises to considerably improve your typing ability in a short amount of time and build on your typing success.

Instructions

1. Type passages out of a favorite novel to get used to looking at a print source and transcribing it to a computer screen. Time how long it takes you to type a page. Divide the words into the minutes it took to get your word-per-minute average.

2. Take an online speed test. The website will time you as you type out a passage they provide. It also docks points for errors, or prevents you from continuing without a fix.

3. Listen to a recording or a podcast and type as much out as you can while you listen. After two minutes, stop and play the recording back. Check your accuracy.

4. Chat with friends online. Chat programs allow you to have more practice typing. Avoid shorthand and make sure to use proper spelling and punctuation for practice.
