Build A Float

It's Homecoming Week, and you're in charge of the float for your college organization. What's more, it's a contest. Relax, because you can build a beat-the-other-team float that will stand out at the parade. You just need a few helpers and your overactive and school-spirited imagination.

Instructions

1. Find a flatbed trailer and a truck to pull it down the parade route. You'll need a large open area to build the float. If there's any chance of rain, find a garage or carport to store it once you have the float decorated.

2. Cover the sides and the base of the flatbed trailer with chicken wire. You can use a staple gun to secure the wire to the trailer. Make sure you get it fastened well; you don't want a stiff wind blowing it into the crowd. You could also use cardboard or wooden boards.

3. Fill in the chicken wire with cloth, tissue paper or just about anything else in your school colors.

4. Create figures, such as your school mascot beating up on the other school's mascot, out of more chicken wire. Cover the figures with tissue paper, napkins, paper mache or crepe paper.

5. Add large balloons in your school colors.

6. Make large signs for your float. The signs should suggest your team will destroy the other team.

7. Force a large group of people from your organization to dress in school colors and ride on the float. They should yell cheers and throw candy to the crowd. They also can accompany you to the winner's circle to accept first prize.
