Education
Dermatologist assistants are medical assistants, which typically requires graduating from an accredited training program lasting one or two years. Coursework includes anatomy and physiology, pathology, medical terminology, insurance coding, word processing and spreadsheet software, and record-keeping.
Certification
Many employers prefer medical assistants to be certified by a professional organization. This involves successfully completing an exam administered by the organization after graduating from the technical school program.

Dermatologist assistants must be familiar with dermatology terminology and procedures. They may be expected to assist during procedures such as laser treatment, cosmetic injections and skin cancer surgery.
