Ideal Gifts For High School Graduates

She has successfully completed high school and is about to find her way in the world, but you don't know what kind of gift to get to help her on her journey. Don't worry, there are a number of ideal gifts for high school graduates that will help them whether they are heading off to college, looking to spend some time traveling, or are planning to head straight into the work force.

Money

Money is an obvious choice when considering what to give a high school graduate. Money will help her along her way whether she decides to go to college, travel or enter the work force. She may even decide to invest the money she receives as graduation gifts to start growing a nice nest egg for the down payment on a house. Money is a gift that fits any budget and any recipient no matter how well you know her.

Housing Items

For most, graduating high school marks a time when the student will be moving into his own place for the first time. Whether he is moving into an apartment or a dorm room, there are items he will need to make his space feel more like home, but also to make it functional. Items such as dishes, bedding, storage containers, towels, rugs and furniture may be needed by the high school grad. Make sure to check with either him or his parents to get a better idea of what his dorm or apartment comes with and what he will need. You could also go the route of getting him a gift card to a housewares store so he can fill in the gaps himself.

Backpack

A backpack might seem like an obvious choice for the high school graduate going away to school, but it is also a decent gift for the high school graduate who isn't quite sure what she is going to do yet. A backpack can serve as luggage for travel or a bag to hold items such as extra clothing when going to work. Everyone, student or otherwise, should have a sturdy backpack in her closet for those unexpected occasions when she will have to carry a number of items. Backpacks are also handy for quick trips home when a few changes of clothing and other items are necessary.

Safety Items

One type of supply that a high school graduate may overlook when getting ready to move out on his own for the first time is safety items. Students living at home might take it for granted that there will be a bandage for his cuts, pain reliever for his headache and syrup for his cough. Don't let him get caught in the middle of the night with a pounding headache and no medication to offer relief. Put together a first aid kit full of handy safety items, such as a thermometer, bandages, sterile wipes and different types of medications.
