Biology is the study of life in all its forms.
Biology is the study of life in all its forms. It can be broken down into several aspects including, neurobiology, molecular biology, human genetics, ecology, animal behavior, developmental biology and the study of evolution. Biology has a large impact on the modern world, from developments in medicine to new agricultural methods. Basic biology is taught to all children at schools and one of the best ways for teaching children is through games. There are several interactive biology games available designed to make learning fun.
Evolution Lab
BiologyinMotion.com, developed a game called Evolution Lab. This online interactive game is available free on their website. The game follows the life of 20 blue organisms that must use a grabber to catch prey. Once they have eaten the organism reproduces. To make room for the offspring one organism must die. The one that dies is the one that has gone longest since eating. The game shows the progress of the species and the mutations that occur that make some better hunters than others. Children can see the effects of natural selection in motion. The game also provides detailed explanations for what is happening to the blue organisms.
Alien Attack
Allien Attack by Zerobio.com, is a first-person shooter game that teaches several biology concepts.. In order to kill the attacking aliens, players must answer a multiple-choice question correctly. The questions can be set harder or easier to suit the player's understanding. If the player gets a question wrong, the alien survives and the player must attempt to shoot again. The game is available free from Zerobio.com and can be played online.
BBC's Interactive Body
Interactive Body by the BBC, is a series of interactive games designed to teach players about the human body and biology. The games are free and available online at the BBC website, (see resources). Players are given an outline of the human body and must select an area such as skeleton or muscles to begin. Body parts appear one-by-one and the player must drag them to the correct area of the body. The game will offer hints if you are stuck. Once the body is completed, the game will produce your score. It will also suggest areas that you need to study more for the future.
