Students can train for a career in fashion design at one of many fashion colleges near Kansas City, Missouri.
While Kansas City, Missouri doesn't house any fashion design colleges, there are three within two or three hours. These colleges train students to acquire the necessary skills for a career in fashion design, with a variety of coursework and hands-on experience. Kansas State University
Located in Manhattan, Kansas, Kansas State University (or K-State as it's often called) offers a bachelor's program in apparel design. Students start out as apparel and textiles majors and can then elect to specialize in apparel design and production. There are also opportunities to study at the American Intercontinental University in London or the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City as a visiting student (no formal transfer necessary). Coursework includes: aesthetics of apparel and textiles, fashion illustration, computer-aided design of apparel and apparel pattern development.

Missouri State University
Missouri State University, located in Springfield, Missouri, offers a bachelor's program in fashion design. Classes include: history of fashion, fashion construction, fashion textiles and fashion illustration. The fashion design program also offers various study tour opportunities. Study tours often last two weeks and include trips to areas such as Paris, China and Greece, in addition to the yearly five-day trip to New York City. These tours and trips give students a real-world view of international fashion. Graduates typically go on to careers as designers, business owners, visual merchandisers and more.

Stephens College
Stephens College is a women's college in Columbia, Missouri. It offers a bachelor's in fashion design and product development. Students get hands-on and classroom training, and get to participate in fashion shows both on and off campus. Students graduate with a professional portfolio that will help them get work in the variety of fields related to fashion design. Coursework includes: survey of the fashion industry, fashion drawing, sportswear & dresses and clothing construction.
