Questions To Ask In A Medical Assistant Position Interview

The career path being considered by more and more people is that of a medical assistant. Advantages in pursuing your master's degree in health include the ability to work for a physician, treat and diagnose patients, and be considered an expert in the health care industry. In fact, the only thing a medical assistant cannot do is open his own practice. Before you get too ahead of yourself, you need to ace the interview process and knowing the right questions to ask on that interview is important.

What are they looking for?

The first question you should ask is "What type of person are you looking for to fill the open position"? If you feel their answer is similar to you and what you possess as a person and/or medical assistant, you should try to restrain yourself from blurting out that you have all those qualities. Even if it does not sound like you, do not let it get you down or off your game as you never quite know what is going to happen in the interview process. They could completely change their mind on what kind of person they want.

Why do they need you?

The next question to ask is "What makes your practice feel you need another physician or assistant with my particular skill set?" You might get an answer like they feel the stress on the current doctors is becoming too great because of the amount of new patients being treated. Whatever the case is, they will take notice that you really want to know more about the practice and are very interested. In general, the answer to this question is not very important. It is open for a reason, and they just want to see that you care.

Is it right for you?

There are a few more questions you should remember to ask that will let you know of the amount of work you will be expected to do while you are working there. Ask how many patients you will be expected to see per day or week. One of the most important questions to ask is if you will ever be on-call, and if you are how often per month. These answers are important for you because it will tell you whether this job is a good match for yourself or if you need to look elsewhere. Even if it does not sound like a good match, remember you can always negotiate your hours.
