Fashion Merchandising & Marketing Scholarships

A variety of scholarship programs are available to students pursuing a career in the world of fashion merchandising and marketing. Some scholarships are available from national organizations dedicated to fashion and marketing. Some fashion design and marketing schools offer competition-based scholarships to prospective students. Many universities that award degrees related to fashion merchandising may also offer scholarships.


New York Women in Communications Foundation








The New York Women in Communications Foundation offers scholarship support to students with an interest in design and advertising through two scholarship programs, the Ruth Whitney Scholarship and the Daniel Ladner Scholarship. Foundation scholarships are typically awarded in amounts ranging from $2,500 to $10,000. To be eligible, an applicant must have a GPA of at least 3.2 on a scale of 4.0. In addition, an applicant must either be a resident of New York, New Jersey, Connecticut or Pennsylvania or be attending school in New York City. Graduate and undergraduate students are eligible to apply.


Direct Marketing Educational Foundation


The Direct Marketing Educational Foundation makes scholarship support available for fashion merchandising and marketing students throughout the United States. Foundation scholarships are typically awarded in amounts ranging from $1,000 to $5,000. To be eligible, an applicant must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States and must be currently enrolled in a marketing program. Scholarships are available to both graduate and undergraduate students.


Scholarship Competitions








Several fashion institutes hold competitions for prospective students that award scholarship packages to the winners. For example, the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising offers scholarships to attend the institute through the institute's National Scholarship Competition. Winners receive a year of school without having to pay tuition. The Art Institutes offers scholarship assistance to aspiring fashion merchandisers through its Passion for Fashion Competition. Scholarships won through this competition may be used for study at one of more than 45 Art Institutes schools throughout North America.


School-Specific Scholarships


Many colleges and universities that offer degrees in fashion merchandising and marketing also offer scholarships to attending students. For example, fashion design and marketing students at Virginia Commonwealth University are eligible to apply for a variety of institutional scholarships, including the $1,000 H. Theo Young Scholarship, the $2,000 Otti Y. Windmueller Scholarship in Fashion Design and the $1,000 John D. and Martha M. Rogers Merit Scholarship.
