Figure A Rooms Square Footage

If you are remodeling or redecorating you may just need to know the square footage of a room. Maybe you are putting down new carpet or tile, or just wanting to know the square footage of your home so that you can sell it. Here is figure the square footage.

Instructions

1. You will need a good tape measure for this how-to. You will need to measure the length and the width of the room. Get someone to help you, you will need someone to hold the tape at one end while you stretch it to the other. Write down the inches of both the length and the width.

2. Now that you have the length and width of the room in inches, you will need to multiply them both. For example, maybe the length was 96 inches, and the width is 108 inches. Multiply them both and you get 10,368 square inches.

3. Well you have just figured the square inches, but that doesn't help. You want square footage. Since there are 12 inches in a foot, and you are measuring both length and width, you will take 12 times 12. This is 144.

4. So in order to the figure square footage, you will need to take 10,368 and divide it by 144. So the equation looks like this: (96x108)/144. So the total square footage in this example is 72.

5. To get the total square footage of your home, you will take the measurements of all rooms and hallways and add them up. This will give you the total square footage of your home.
