To teach a teenager algebra can be the greatest of conundrums and challenges, or it may just come together like a well-factored polynomial equation. Whatever the case may be, better that it be faced now, because it will surely come in handy for your teenager to know algebra when he or she reaches college.
Instructions
1. Encourage young children to learn and enjoy math. Enroll the child in an after-school math tutor lab. As a parent or mentor, study up so you can appreciate math and help the child learn.
2. Put in the time as a parent or mentor, because math takes time. Learn and practice problems with the child and teenager.
3. Nurture this love of math learning in the child all the way into the teenage years.
4. Monitor the teenager closely during these years of algebra 1 and algebra 2 in high school. The teenager cannot afford to lag behind, skip class or miss turning in homework or studying for tests or exams.
5. Use all the resources available to assist the teenager. Find help in private or school tutors. Talk to the teacher to see how the teenager is doing. Allow the teenager time to work on homework, and give support, understanding, tools and resources as needed.
6. Go to one of the many algebra 1 and algebra 2 online websites for high school students, and supplement the teenagers class work with the free quizzes, worksheets and practice problems as time allows. To teach a teenager algebra is a worthwhile effort.
