Colleges & Universities In New Jersey & New York Offering Interior Design & Architecture







Compare the programs at the top schools.


Several schools in New York and New Jersey consistently rank in the top 20 colleges for architecture and design. Two institutions compile the rankings each year: Architectural Record, and the highly respected source book DesignIntelligence. Cornell University, Syracuse University, Columbia University and Princeton University are routinely considered the top institutions in New York and New Jersey for interior design and architecture.


Cornell University


Cornell offers historical architecture studies in Rome.


Cornell University, in Ithaca, New York, offers students access to the coveted Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) degree, a five-year professional program. The school also has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Architecture, Bachelor of Science in History of Architecture, and Master of Architecture. Students interested in interior design should contact the school's admissions office and ask about dual-degree programs. Cornell also offers opportunities for study abroad, and has a satellite campus in Rome for its architecture students.


Syracuse University








Syracuse University, in Syracuse, New York, offers a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design through their College of Visual and Performing Arts. This degree uses architecture fundamentals for the creation of functional and aesthetically pleasing interior design. Syracuse's School of Architecture students can earn a Bachelor of Architecture or Master of Architecture. The schools offer study-abroad opportunities for interior design and architecture students in Europe, Asia, Russia, Central America and Africa.


Columbia University

Columbia University, in New York City, graduated its first architecture student in 1884. This renowned institution is in the heart of one of the world's most architecturally advanced cities and students here can earn a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture. Studies can be continued at the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation, with master and Ph.D. offerings in historical architecture, design, urban planning and a Paris study-abroad option. Students here can specialize in design areas of their interest, including landscape, architectural, urban and interior.


Princeton University


Princeton, in Princeton, New Jersey, is one of the top schools in the country. Its programs in architecture and design are intended to prepare students for a diverse range of careers. Princeton's Department of Art and Archeology offers a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, and the School of Architecture offers a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture. A specialized course of study that leads to a Bachelor of Science in Architecture and Engineering is also available through Princeton's School of Engineering and Applied Science. This university also offers customizable degree programs for exceptional students.


Pratt Institute


Pratt Institute, in New York City, is rated as one of the best schools for interior and architectural design. Students earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design, and also have the opportunity to earn dual degrees in interior design and architecture. Pratt prides itself on molding professional artists, and also trained leaders of industry and businesspeople with a strong understanding of math and sciences. This private school offers students an opportunity for extensive creative training and expression, along with a solid education in liberal arts and sciences.
