Become A Junior Rotc

The Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) has many advantages for students. Students who complete at least two academic years of JROTC can advance to a higher level when joining the military unlike recruits who have no JROTC experience. You are under no obligation to join the military just because you participate in JROTC, but the program is designed to expose students to military duties, patriotism, leadership and discipline.

Instructions

1. Determine if your high school has a JROTC program. Each branch of the military -- Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard -- offers its own JROTC program. Many schools, however, only offer a JROTC program from one branch of the military.

2. Meet one of three citizenship requirements. Students must be a U.S. citizen, a national of the U.S. or a lawful alien with permanent resident status.

3. Meet physical fitness and heath requirements. All cadets must be certified as "fit" before being allowed to participate. You must complete a physical fitness test during your evaluation by the program director or instructor.

4. Sign up for JROTC classes. Students that participate in JROTC are given credit. You must sign up for classes before or at the beginning of the semester. Talk with your high school counselor to find out about signing up for JROTC classes.
