Schools That Offer Orthopedic Surgeon Programs

It takes an intensive residency program to prepare orthopedic surgeons.

Residency in an orthopedic surgery program is a major educational step in becoming an orthopedic surgeon. After completing all pre-med requirements and finishing a rigorous medical-school education, budding orthopedic surgeons complete a residency program before finally dedicating their lives to repairing human bodies in need.

New York University Medical Center

New York University in New York City gives twelve resident students per year the chance to participate in its orthopedic surgery program. The program's curriculum focuses on clinical orthopedics, comprehensive surgical training, basic orthopedic science and orthopedic research fundamentals. Students study through 60 months of clinical rotations, including all major orthopedic subspecialties, and attain in- and out-patient experience. A comprehensive didactic program includes conferences in all areas of clinical orthopedics, fractures, basic science and orthopedic pathology. This program provides each resident with two complete cycles over four years of study. NYU also offers a fellowship-training program in the orthopedic areas of adult reconstruction, hand surgery, pediatrics, shoulder and elbow surgery, spine and sports medicine. Interested students apply online using an Electronic Residency Application System (ERAS),
