Many graduate students choose the top education schools for their studies


Many students and professionals in the field of education choose graduate schools to either lead towards a teaching certification or to push their career towards teaching at the college level or working as an administrator. Although may schools offer graduate education programs, the top schools of Vanderbilt University, Columbia University and Harvard offer the best programs in the country, according to US News & World Report's 2010 rankings.


Columbia University


Columbia University's Teachers College ranks second in graduate education schools, according to US News & World Report. Students enrolled in the school have a number of areas of study, including teaching, family and community education, conflict resolution, and law and educational institutions. Students have the opportunity to work towards teacher certification, earn their masters degree or study towards a doctorate degree. The school also offers "intensive" curricula for teachers who wish to earn an accelerated masters degree. These programs,offered only during the summer, include art and art education, music education, social studies and the principals academy.

Vanderbilt University


Ranked as the top graduate school for education, Vanderbilt University offers both masters and doctoral studies at its Peabody College. The masters program provides areas of study for full-time, part-time and early enrollment students. Early enrollment students are current Vanderbilt undergrads. These areas of study include human resources development, special education, teaching preparation, education policy and child studies. The program also features a joint degree with juris doctor in public policy. The doctorate programs, which takes 36-months to complete, include one in higher education and another in educational leadership.

Harvard University








Harvard University's graduate education program lays claim to the third place spot in US News & World Report's rankings. The program provides two areas of doctorate study: education and educational leadership. The 13 masters degree areas of study at the school include arts in education, teacher education, human development and psychology, and higher education. The school also features a student exchange program with graduate education school at the University of California at Berkley, which lasts one or two semesters. The school provides non-degree study to a limited number of education professionals, which provides for career enhancement.
