Calculate Act Scores On The Ncaa Sliding Scale

Initial NCAA athletic elgibility is determined on a sliding scale.

The NCAA determines initial eligibility on a sliding scale. You must pass 32 semesters of core classes during high school, averaging at least a "C" or a core GPA of 2.0. You must also take the ACT (or SAT). The higher your core GPA, the lower your standardized test score needs to be for you to gain eligibility, and vice versa. Math, physical sciences, social sciences, English, foreign language and philosophy courses count toward your core classes. Physical education, religion and independent study courses do not.

Instructions

1. Maintain at least a 2.0 core GPA over 32 semesters of core classes, including eight semesters of English, six semesters of math (algebra 1 or higher), four semesters of physical science (including two semesters of lab classes, if offered at your high school), two additional semesters of English, math, or physical science, four semesters of social science and eight semesters of any of the above and including foreign language or philosophy.

2. Take the ACT. The minimum ACT score for NCAA eligibility is a 37, but you can only score that low if your core GPA was at least a 3.55. Similarly, if you score an 86 on the ACT, you can gain NCAA eligibility with a core GPA as low as 2.0.

3. Go to Preazy Prep's Division I NCAA Eligibility Calculator (see Resources). Enter your grades in the corresponding fields to determine your core GPA. Honors and advanced placement (AP) classes are weighted the same as regular classes.

4. Click the green "Calculate" button once all grades have been entered. Your core GPA and required ACT score will be shown in red near the top of the page.
