Write A Resume For Mba School

Write a Resume for MBA School

Writing a quality resume is an important part of getting into graduate school. How you write your resume can ultimately decide whether or not you end up getting into MBA school, so you should know the components necessary to writing a good resume. After reviewing your resume, MBA admissions representatives should have a clear understanding of your past work experience, career history, and educational credentials. Your resume needs to be unique and communicate key accomplishments and experiences.

Instructions

1. Write your contact information on the front page. Include your name, address, telephone number, and e-mail address. Use an e-mail address that is professional. If you are still using an e-mail address that is immature or offensive, this will be looked at negatively. Go on Yahoo! or Google and create a free e-mail address if you need to.

2. Write a detailed description of your work experience, highlighting jobs that provide a glimpse of your prior business experience in chronological order starting with the most recent. Write down the company name, your title, dates you worked there, an overview of your role, and several bullet points that detail your accomplishments. Use strong action verbs to start each sentence and write specific, measurable statements, such as "increased sales 100% in two years." As far as verb tense, if it's something that happened in the past, then use the past tense. If it's something that you're currently working on, then use the present tense. Only include career accomplishments that demonstrate relevant skills and responsibilities. Your work experience as a busboy when you were 16, for example, is not necessary for a resume for MBA school. Focus on the management, leadership, organizational, or innovation aspects of your past work experience.

3. Use the right technical specifications. Margins should not be any smaller than half an inch and your font size should be between 10 and 12, no bigger and no smaller. Use an easy-to-read font like Arial. Try to keep your resume to one page or under if possible and no more than two pages. Graduate school reviewers do not want to read a five page resume; rather, they are looking for a terse, succinct description of your experiences, skills, and abilities. Writing an objective statement has been a source of debate but in general, you don't need to include an objective because it's clear that your objective is to get into MBA school. It's always a good idea to ask your admissions officer for advice and ask them if they have a sample resume or any tips they can offer for writing an effective resume.
