Yale University: Master's Degree in Urban Teaching
Yale University offers a one-year master's degree program in the area of urban education studies. Students accepted to the program receive full funding for tuition and expenses in exchange for a commitment to teach for two years in the New Haven public school system. The program is also designed to help students receive certification in the state of Connecticut. Students take 13 courses through the duration of the program. The degree requires students to complete academic coursework while gaining practical teaching experience. Students can obtain certification to teach in the fields of history, general science, math, English, physics, biology and chemistry. Courses include Advanced Issues in Urban Settings, Education Psychology and Special Education.

University of San Francisco: Master of Arts in Teaching
The University of San Francisco offers a master of arts in teaching with an emphasis on urban education and social justice. Launched in the Fall 2009 semester, this master's degree program offers students to obtain licensing credentials in California in one or more subjects. The degree programs vary slightly based on how many credentials the student is seeking. Courses of study include Teaching, Learning and Technology, Education of Exceptional Children, Teaching for Diversity and Social Justice, Education of Bilingual Children and Curriculum and Instruction.

University of Chicago: Master of Arts in Teaching
The University of Chicago offers a master of arts in teaching. The degree program is offered in conjunction with the university's Urban Education Institute, an institution devoted to training teachers to serve in the Chicago public school system. The program is designed to last two years. One of the perks of the program is its $20,000 annual stipend to teaching candidates who will commit to teaching in the city of Chicago. The school boasts a 90 percent retention rate for graduates who complete the program and remain in the Chicago public school system for five or more years. Teaching certification can be obtained for grades K--9 or 6--12. Students in the program work alongside teachers in the public school system from the outset. Students are required to complete coursework, fieldwork and tutoring as part of the degree program requirements.
