Apply For A Navy Rotc Scholarship

Apply for a Navy ROTC Scholarship

Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) programs are the single-largest source of new Navy and Marine Corps officers. Over 60 colleges throughout the nation have NROTC units, and another 40-plus schools have an NROTC affiliation. Students can win 4-year, full-tuition scholarships to these schools in exchange for a commitment to serve as a Navy or Marine Corps officer. Follow these steps to apply for these competitive NROTC scholarships.

Instructions

1. Decide if you want to serve as an unrestricted line officer in the Navy or Marine Corps. NROTC graduates must enter a line community that includes the surface, submarine, aviation and special warfare communities. You cannot enter fields such as intelligence or supply.

2. Choose between the Navy and Marine options. Apply online through the Navy's Web site (see the Who Can Help section below) or the respective service's recruiting office.

3. Apply to any college you want to attend that has an NROTC program. The school must accept you separately from the scholarship award.

4. Take the SAT or ACT college entrance exam. The Navy and Marine Corps do not have the same minimum test scores. The average test scores of scholarship recipients are much higher than the minimum required to apply.

5. Follow all directions that you receive during the application process. You must send transcripts, recommendations and a description of your extracurricular and leadership activities.

6. Get in shape with running and conditioning exercises. Take the fitness test as instructed.

7. Complete the medical exam when instructed. Provide any follow-up information.
