The Department of Psychology offers a coterminal master of arts in psychology, which allows those students who earn a bachelor's degree to continue on to a graduate degree without re-applying to the university. The University of California-Berkeley, a large, public research institution located in Berkeley, California, is a member of the University of California system. The Psychology Department was ranked by U.S. News & World Report in 2009 as having the top graduate psychology program in the United States. (The department tied for this position with Stanford University). UC Berkeley offers a graduate program in psychology with five unique concentration tracks in the following areas: behavioral neuroscience; change, plasticity and development; clinical science; cognition, brain and behavior; and social-personality. Each of these concentrations requires that students take a core selection of general psychology classes as well as two to four specialized courses in a chosen concentration.
