Top Colleges In Colorado

Colorado is home to several highly ranked colleges and universities.


In 2010, US News and World Report ranked one college in Colorado among the nation's top 25 liberal arts colleges, and two public universities in Colorado among the nation's top 80 universities. These schools have well-established academic traditions with roots in the 19th century. Students at Colorado's top schools can pursue undergraduate and graduate degrees in a variety of academic and professional fields.


Colorado College


Colorado College is a private liberal arts college that was founded in 1874. As of 2009, the school had just over 2000 undergraduate students. The school offers 32 academic departments and 7 interdisciplinary programs. Students take courses in a nontraditional block schedule, with eight three-and-a-half week academic blocks per year. Students enjoy a four-day break between blocks. Colorado College was ranked 24th in US News and World Report's 2010 ranking of liberal arts colleges.

Colorado School of Mines


The Colorado School of Mines is a public research university that was founded in 1873. The school emphasizes the fields of engineering and applied science. As of 2009, about 3300 undergraduates and 950 graduate students attended the School of Mines. The school offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in 13 academic departments within four main divisions, including applied science and mathematics, engineering, geoscience and resource engineering and humanities and social sciences. The Colorado School of Mines tied for 77th in US News and World Report's 2010 ranking of national universities.

University of Colorado at Boulder


The University of Colorado at Boulder is a public research university that was founded in 1876. The school now functions as the University of Colorado System's flagship institution. As of 2009, the school had over 25000 undergraduates and 4600 graduate students. The university contains nine academic colleges and schools, including the College of Arts and Sciences, the Leeds School of Business, the Graduate School, the School of Law and more. Together these colleges and schools offer bachelor's degree programs in 85 departments, master's degree programs in 70 departments and doctoral degree programs in 50 departments. The University of Colorado at Boulder tied for 77th in US News and World Report's 2010 ranking of national universities.
