Prepare well in advance for the ACT Science test.
The ACT, or the American College Test, is an aptitude test that high school students take when applying to U.S. colleges. The ACT science exam determines a student's scientific reasoning skills. It is normally only taken by those students wanting to pursue a science-based course of study or profession. The ACT Science test can be challenging. It is best to register for a test sitting well in advance, then use your time preparing, practicing, and building up your confidence.
Instructions
1. Register for the ACT Science test. This can be done through the official ACT website, or through your high school guidance counselor's office.
2. Choose a location that is convenient for you to take the test. The test will most likely be offered at several different locations. Picking one that is easy for you to get to will cut down on pre-test jitters. Practice driving to the test site at the approximate time that the exam will be administered if you are not sure about the site's location or local traffic conditions.
3. Prepare for the test. There are numerous ways to prepare for an aptitude test, including purchasing study materials, hiring a tutor or attending a test preparation course. Decide which method will work best for you and proceed accordingly, but whatever you do be sure to work through a lot of practice questions. Taking the ACT Science test is as much about knowing science as it is about understanding interpret the exam's questions and unique format.
4. Set aside time each day for practice. Procrastinating often leads to lower scores.
5. Report to the appropriate test center on time, which is usually 8:00am. Make sure to eat a healthy breakfast before the test so that you have adequate mental energy and focus when taking the test.
6. Bring valid identification for checking into the test, such as a current school ID, driver's license or passport.
7. Be ready to begin promptly on time and follow all rules as notified by the proctor. This usually means clearing your desk of all material except for your closed exam booklet and any pencils you have brought. Number 2 pencils are usually the only type of pencil permitted.
8. Take advantage of the two breaks that are given to you during the test to refresh your brain and refuel your body. Bring healthy snacks that contain both protein and whole-grain carbohydrates, such as low-fat cheese and crackers, a turkey sandwich on whole wheat bread or an apple and turkey slices. Do not use your cell phone or any electronic devices during the breaks.
9. Complete the test as best as you can and wait for your scores to be mailed to you.
