The website ULinks lists the top 100 colleges and universities in the world. Four French universities appear in this list. The University of Paris appears twice in this list: the first time ranked 45th and listed as University of Paris 06; and the second time ranked 66th and listed as University of Paris 11. The reason is that in 1970, the University of Paris was reorganized as 13 autonomous universities, and the numbers 06 and 11 identify two of the 13 universities. The other ranked French universities are the University of Strasbourg and Ecole Normal Super Paris. These same universities are in the list of Best French Universities by the website Abroad Education.
University of Paris 11
The University of Paris 11 has the largest campus in France. It has locations in five suburbs of Paris: Orsay, Sceaux, Châtenay-Malabry, Cachan, and Kremlin-Bicêtre. This university is involved in almost all fields except human sciences. It has: five faculties (Sciences, Law and Economic Sciences, Pharmacy, Medicine, Sports Science); three Institutes of Technology (Cachan, Orsay and Sceaux) and one School of Engineering. Orsay is where the President and most of the central staff hold office. Of about 30,000 students, 43 percent are enrolled in general education courses, 57 percent are in professional training courses, and 4,800 are students from 132 different countries. The teaching staff numbers 1,800 people.

University of Strasbourg
Three universities in Strasbourg (Louis Pasteur, Marc Bloch and Robert Schuman) merged in early 2009 to form the new University of Strasbourg. This development made the University of Strasbourg a comprehensive university covering all fields of higher education. It is now the biggest French university, with 41,058 students (20 percent of them foreigners), 11,423 trainees, 4,635 teaching, technical and administrative staff and 1,386 staff of research organizations. Courses are taught in 37 schools, faculties and institutes, and research is undertaken in 86 laboratories and research centers. This university is a research-oriented institution with almost 400 doctoral theses submitted yearly. It is located in the heart of Strasbourg, with several other locations in the region of Alsace.

Ecole Normale Superieure Paris
Ecole Normal Super has undergraduate and graduate schools that produce a lot of research work. This school has 14 academic departments that grant degrees upon completion of masters and doctoral research work. Graduates of ENS are found in many professions: in teaching, research, senior civil service, journalism and business. The university takes pride in giving its students have a well-rounded campus life, with a lot of sports and leisure available in its sites, mostly located in the Latin Quarter. Admission is selective, and many of its graduates have gone on to become the best in their fields of concentration over the past two centuries. The training that ENS provides, particularly research training, helps the students develop an innovative spirit. The school also provides close mentoring and monitoring of each student from year to year. This research training and monitoring is the hallmark of an ENS education.
