Improvise Furniture For College

College dorms are notoriously small and difficult to decorate, especially when you're sharing space with a roommate. Whether you're living in a dorm or a small apartment, if you're a college student it's likely you need some quick, creative solutions for improvise a few pieces of furniture. Read on to learn more.

1. Optimize existing furniture pieces by doubling up on function. Use your dresser or a chest of drawers to hold your TV, get a small cushioned block for both storage and an ottoman, or get a chest of drawers to use for storage and as a coffee table.


2. Select large, inexpensive shelving for books or electronics. You can get a lot of storage space on a budget with large, cheap shelves. Dress them up with some fabric draped behind them as a backdrop to match your room.








3. Use crates for storage, shelving and as an emergency table or chair. Crates can be stacked as shelves or turned upside down and used as a table. You can drape a small square of fabric over it as a table cloth or just leave it natural.


4. See what you can get at yard sales and in the classified ads. People often give away furniture when they move, and you may find certain pieces of furniture that you can use. You can even use furniture for unconventional uses, like using a simple table as a desk, a desk hutch for floor shelving or a bar stool as a plant stand.


5. Alter any pieces of furniture fit your room with paint or fabric. You can change furniture to fit your decor by covering it with fabric or painting parts of it to fit the color scheme of your room. Unrelated items can quickly become a matching set.
