Publish A Law Review Article

Publish a Law Review Article

A law review is a scholarly publication that is usually run by law school students or by a bar association. It focuses on legal issues and ideas, and it serves as an academic reference in the law field. Most articles are written by law students and professors, legal practitioners and judges. Guidelines for submitting a law review article for publication may vary.

Instructions

1. Research and write on a legal topic. Revise it if necessary, then decide where you want to submit your manuscript. Study the website and a copy of the publication so that you understand the style and format.

2. Check your article for length. For example, if you want to publish an article in the Harvard Law Review, it should be shorter than 25,000 words, or 50 pages, in order to receive preference. If you're interested in publishing in the Columbia Law Review, preference is given to submissions under 32,000 words.

3. Follow the publication guidelines. For instance, if you're interested in the Columbia Law Review, you must double-space your article, use footnotes instead of end notes, conform to their preferred style guide and use gender-neutral language. For your article to appear in the Harvard Law Review, make sure your title appears on the first page, the citations are formatted with footnotes, and use a separate page for your name, title and biographical information so that your article is reviewed anonymously.

4. Determine how you want to send your article. Columbia Law Review and Harvard Law Review allow scholars to fill out an online form at their website for faster processing. You must fill out your name, address, phone number, email and the name of your file where you saved your article, then press "Submit" to send your article along with your query. You can still send your article by mail, but keep in mind that it may take them longer to receive and review it.
