X-ray technicians are trained to take radiographic images of the body.
X-ray technicians or radiologic technologists operate radiologic equipment to produce images of organs, bones and tissues in the body. X-ray technicians work in hospitals, imaging centers and physician's offices. Along with operating the radiologic equipment, technicians are responsible for record-keeping, appointment scheduling, human resource duties and general office management. For Michigan residents who are interested in becoming an X-ray technician, there are several schools that offer the program, leading to either a certificate or an associate's degree.
Lake Michigan College
The Radiologic Technology program at Lake Michigan College is a 23-month program designed to train students in the field of radiography. Students will experience a combination of classroom coursework and clinical training. Upon completion of the program graduates will have demonstrated expertise in radiography, critical thinking and a thorough understanding of professional values. Graduates will be awarded an Associate of Applied Science in Radiologic Technology and will be eligible to take the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists certification exam. Upon passing the examination, a graduate is considered a Registered Technologist. Financial aid is available to those who qualify, and job placement assistance is offered to all graduates of the program.

Henry Ford Community College
The radiographer program is a full-time, 24-month program. Upon graduation, graduates will be clinically competent and employable in an entry-level X-ray technician position. Coursework is a combination of classroom education, practice labs and clinical training. Financial aid is available, and job placement assistance is offered.

Jackson Community College
Graduates of the Radiography program will be competent entry-level radiographers with a demonstrated ability to think critically and utilize problem-solving skills.
