Biomedical Colleges And Universities

Medical research is just one aspect of biomedicine.

Biomedical engineering is the medical science that works to improve human health by using research and development. There are several schools that offer biomedical degree programs, and graduates can choose from a variety of careers, such as pharmaceutical and medicine manufacturing and scientific research and development services.

Midwestern Colleges

The state of Ohio has several biomedical colleges. Ohio State, in Columbus, has a biomedical science program that prepares students to work in a biomedical career. Students can choose to follow a path to obtain either a master's or a doctoral degree. Purdue University, in West Lafayette, Indiana, offers the Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering. The school provides students with experience in research and provides both an undergraduate and graduate program.

Northeastern Colleges

One northeastern institution that offers a chemical and biomolecular engineering program is the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Students in the program have the opportunity to work in several fields of research and can earn either a bachelor of applied science or bachelor of science degree. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge offers a Biomedical Enterprise Program, provided to students in a collaboration with Harvard Medical School. The school has three degree tracks.

Southern Colleges

Rice University, located in Houston, Texas, works in collaboration with several of the state's medical institutions to research and develop medications and technologies that benefit the health of humans. The school offers eight floors of classrooms and laboratories, where students can get hands-on experience in the field of biomedics, and has programs for both undergraduates and graduates. Georgia Institute of Technology, in Atlanta, offers the Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering, which is a collaboration of both Georgia Tech and Emory University. The school offers programs of study for both undergraduate and graduate students.

Western Colleges

The University of California--Berkeley has a school of bioengineering that offers both undergraduate and graduate programs. Students attending the school will participate in research that strives to improve diagnostic technology and treatments for disease. The University of Washington, in Seattle, has a department of bioengineering, where students can earn a bachelor of science, a master of science or a Ph.D. in the field of biomedical engineering. The school offers state-of-the-art facilities, where students can work in a surface analysis center with an advanced computing laboratory and image computing lab.
