L.L.M programs are offered at many law schools.
Because each law school teaches the laws of its own country and issues a degree specific to that country, it is difficult to rank the top worldwide law schools. However, most law schools offer a Master of Laws (L.L.M.) degree, more "international" degree that may qualify students to work in another country. The top three L.L.M. programs in the world, according to a 2009 Financial Times report, are offered at New York University, Georgetown University and American University.
New York University
The Financial Times ranks New York University's (NYU) L.L.M. program first. The L.L.M. programs at NYU are offered at the law school's home location in New York City and at a campus in Singapore. Students are eligible to apply to the L.L.M. if they hold a first degree in law (i.e. a J.D. or L.L.B.) or a bachelor's degree in law from a non-United States country. NYU offers L.L.M. programs in taxation, corporation law, and environmental law, among others.

Georgetown University Law Center
Georgetown University Law Center (GULC), ranked second on the Financial Times list, offers students a choice between seven L.L.M programs. These include taxation, securities and financial regulations, international business, global health law and a general L.L.M. for international students, among others, according to the GULC website. The program enrolled 293 students in 2009, according to the Financial Times.

American University
American University's Washington College of the Law, ranked third by the Financial Times, offers two L.L.M. programs: one in international legal studies and one in law and government. The university's location in the heart of Washington, D.C., exposes students to the workings of the U.S. governing system. The International Legal Studies program enrolls more than 142 students from 53 different countries; to be considered for admission, students must hold a J.D. from an American Bar Association (ABA) accredited school or a foreign law degree accredited by that country's ABA equivalent, according to the law school's website.
