Where To Find Colleges That Offer Preparation Classes For Hvac

If you've recently chosen to pursue an HVAC career, it's a decision that will open doors and change the rest of your life. Now you need to choose a program to apply to. There are plenty of schools to choose from, but making a choice may seem overwhelming. Friends and family may have their opinions, but talking with a person who knows the scoop on this type of specialty is imperative.

Your High School Counselor

Talk to the counselor at your local high school. Colleges and technical schools send brochures and information packets to high schools in the hopes that counselors will pass the information along to students or other interested parties. Counselors also have access to databases and directories of schools that offer HVAC programs. Make an appointment to discuss your HVAC goals with a counselor.

Your Local Career Center

If you find yourself contemplating a HVAC career after high school, check with your local career center. Career center representatives are trained in pairing you with a program that will meet your goals. They'll steer you toward local technical or trade schools, a community college or specialty HVAC programs. Career centers have the inside scoop on technical internships and apprenticeships and often are the only types of place to get such information.

The Web

Many websites offer listings of schools with HVAC programs. Check out the HVAC Training Schools Directory (http://www.trade-schools.net/directory/hvac-schools-directory.asp) or HVAC Training Directory of Schools (http://www.directoryofschools.com/Heating-Ventilation-Air-Conditioning-and-Refrigeration-School.htm). Also worth looking into is HVAC Technical Institute, a Chicago-based campus focused solely on this trade. When looking at schools online, be sure to request all pertinent information. Your chosen schools will send you details on coursework, campus living and financial aid.

A Tip

Schedule campus visits with your top-choice schools. Being on campus gives you a much better idea of the school's culture and is key in making a selection this important. This is your future---take pride in it and make a well-informed decision.
