Things To Bring To A Psat

Put everything for the PSAT in your backpack ahead of time.

After studying hard to do well on your PSAT, the last thing you want is to show up for the test without your calculator and other necessary supplies, or with prohibited items. Gather your things the night before the PSAT to decrease the likelihood of forgetting things because of nervousness the next day.

ID

Bring a photo ID, such as your driver's license or school ID, to confirm your registration and identity when you arrive for the test.

Pencils

Use a No. 2 pencil for the PSAT. Bring two or more sharpened pencils to avoid spending exam time sharpening them.

Calculator

Bring a calculator to use on the math sections. A list of approved calculators will be included with your registration materials. Bring only a calculator model included on this list. All math questions on the PSAT have been designed for students to be able to complete them without a calculator, so don't get bogged down or waste time with complicated calculator functions. They shouldn't be necessary. Look for simple mental solutions to the questions, and use the calculator for speed.

Snack

Bring water and a snack, such as fruit, cookies or a chocolate bar, to replenish your energy between test sections.

Prohibited Items

Do not bring any electronic devices, alarms, rulers or other stationery materials, dictionaries or books. You cannot use scrap paper, pens or highlighters. Only your test booklet, answer sheet, No. 2 pencils and calculator may be on your desk during the test.
