New Jersey Scholarships & Grants

New Jersey Scholarships & Grants

The state of New Jersey offers educational grants and scholarships through many branches of the state's government. These awards are available through special interest programs that were created to fulfill particular educational imperatives. Scholarships awarded by the state are offered to students who meet academic or circumstantial requirements, while organizational grants are awarded to programs that provide educational opportunities to state residents.

Commission on Higher Education

The New Jersey Commission on Higher Education awards a number of educational grants to organizations that qualify. The commission maintains the Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Program. This program provides funding to pre-collegiate programs for at-risk students grades six through 12 designed to help such students graduate high school and attend college. The agency also operates the Disengaged Adults Returning to College Grant Program and Dual Enrollment Incentive Grant Program.

Higher Education Student Assistance Authority

The Higher Education Student Assistance Authority of New Jersey maintains an online database of individual grants and scholarships awarded at the state and federal level. Among the scholarships are the NJ Student Tuition Assistance Reward Scholarship I, NJ Student Tuition Assistance Reward Scholarship II, Edward J. Bloustein Distinguished Scholars Award and New Jersey World Trade Center Scholarship. Tuition Aid Grants and Part-Time Tuition Aid Grants are national awards available to students at a number of New Jersey colleges and universities.

Department of State

The New Jersey Department of State awards grants and scholarships via the Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Commission. The commission awards $5,000 scholarships annually to New Jersey college students who exhibit meaningful involvement in human rights, social justice, labor and world peace initiatives. The V-Free Mini Grant Program awards funds to student projects fostering schools and communities that are free of violence, vandalism and victimization. The commission also offers internships and hosts regional youth leadership conferences.

Office of Grants Management

The Department of Education Office of Grants Management maintains a database of federal education grants available to New Jersey residents and contact information for grantmaking foundations. Among the foundations offering grants are the Foundation Center, Council of New Jersey Grantmakers, Delaware Valley Grantmakers and the Center for Non-Profit Corporations. Grant-awarding branches of the state government include the Office of Minority and Multicultural Health, the Center for Youth Policy and Programs, and State Environmental Education Directory.
