If you have suffered from a medical condition or been involved in an accident that left you disabled and not able to work, you can apply for Social Security disability checks. This is true whether your disability is only temporary, such as a result from some type of surgery, or permanent. Once you apply for disability benefits you may have to wait a few months to find out whether you were approved or not. You can check your status online in the meantime.
Instructions
1. Gather your Social Security number and the confirmation number you received when you applied.
2. Head to the Internet and go to the application status web page. See the resource box for the direct link.
3. Type your Social Security number and your confirmation number in the appropriate boxes and click "next."
4. Read your results. The results will tell you the status of your application.
5. Call to check the status of your application if you don't have Internet access. Call 1-800-772-1213 between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. on any weekday. Follow the prompts and enter your Social Security number and confirmation number when asked.
