Applying to a cosmetology school isn't much different than applying to a school or university. Before you apply to any institution of higher learning, you should have a plan in your head of the career path that you would like to take. By mapping out goals for yourself in a letter of intent, you can prove to the cosmetology school that you are eager and determined and create a set plan for yourself. Many cosmetology schools require these letters be sent along with the application.
Instructions
1. Begin the application process for entrance into the cosmetology school. The cosmetology school may require high school transcripts or ask you to complete an entrance exam before you send the letter of intent. Speak with the office of admissions at the cosmetology school for specific guidelines regarding the application process.
2. Base your letter of intent on any requirements that are given to you by the cosmetology school. For example, you may be asked to explain where your see yourself in 5, 10 and 15 years. If that is the case, you will need to outline your letter around these specifications.
3. Explain what from your past caused you to be interested in a career in cosmetology. Perhaps you've always been fascinated with fashion or you have a relative in the cosmetology business. Mentioning this will demonstrate to the school that cosmetology isn't simply something that you became interested in overnight, and will increase your chances of being accepted into the cosmetology school.
4. Write a paragraph describing what you expect to get out of your time in cosmetology school. Mention specific aspects of cosmetology that fascinate you and which areas you want to learn more about. Just as with any college, a cosmetology school will be more likely to accept a person who appears eager and willing to learn.
5. Mention why you have chosen this particular school. You may want to talk about how prestigious the school is or mention a few specific qualities about the school that drew you in. The point of this paragraph is to make your letter of intent seem different than a basic "form letter" that you may have sent to several other similar cosmetology schools.
6. Describe the specific path that you hope to take. For example, you may wish you work in a high-end salon or do hair and/or makeup for television shows. These few sentences are a great way to end your letter, as they show the cosmetology school that you are serious about obtaining a quality education and using that education for years to come.
