If you are a soon-to-be college student in Georgia who needs some extra financial help to attend college in state, you may consider applying for the HOPE Scholarship. The HOPE Scholarship stands for Helping Outstanding Pupils Educationally and was created to help academically eligible high school students afford college. If you have earned at least a B average in high school, the HOPE Scholarship may be for you. There are several ways to apply for this scholarship.
Instructions
1. Apply for the HOPE Scholarship either electronically through a site such as Gacollege411.org (see Resources) or downloading a printable form from the site. This is for students who are attending a public college or technical school in Georgia. Follow the directions on the website; it's an easy process and can be in done in a short amount of time.
2. Get additional financial aid on top of the HOPE Scholarship. Fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). If you are applying for additional student aid in addition to the HOPE Scholarship, the only form you must fill out is the FAFSA. You do not need to fill out a HOPE Scholarship application unless the specific college you are attending requires it. You can fill out a FAFSA form electronically through Gacollege411.org.
3. Fill out the HOPE Scholarship/TEG (Georgia Tuition Equalization Grant Application) form if you're attending private school. This can be completed at Gacollege411.org and can be done electronically or printed and filled out manually.
4. Submit your application as early as possible. Apply for the HOPE Scholarship by January of your senior year in high school. This will ensure that all forms are ready and waiting by the time you graduate. Waiting until the last minute to apply for this scholarship can make for a stressful situation in an already harried time of your life.
