Japanese Fashion Design Colleges

Japanese fashion became internationally renowned in the early 1970s when the Japanese economy was on an upswing. Ready-made clothing became more easily available and the average citizen had money to spend on fashion. Hanae Mori, Kenzo Takada and Issei Miyake became well-respected fashion designers in the world market. With their claim in the international design circles, Japanese fashion design colleges also experienced a growth surge. The Japanese fashion design colleges listed below each boast a unique claim in the field.

Mode Gakuen

Mode Gakuen, located in Shinjuku, Tokyo, the trendy fashion district of Japan's capitol, is perhaps the most unique fashion design college in Japan. In addition to its high academic standards, Mode Gakuen offers students an internship program, something nearly nonexistent in Japanese education. Another unique feature of Mode Gakuen is its "Employment Guarantee System." The college helps students to find work upon graduation and until they do secure employment, they are allowed to continue studying at the college free of charge.
