Sell Tires In Kansas City Missouri

You must obtain a business license if you want to sell retail or wholesale tires in Kansas City.

Alongside gasoline and motor oil, tires are one of the necessary periodic purchases that come along with motor vehicle ownership. Keeping this in mind, your prospects of success in opening your own tire business can seem high. If you live in Kansas City, Missouri, you must apply for and receive a city business license before you can sell tires via a retail or wholesale storefront. If your ambitions are smaller, however, you may opt to sell using a classified ad.

Instructions

1. Sell your tires using a classified ads website such as "Craigslist" or the classifieds section of "The Kansas City Star" or "The Kansas City Business News" if you're only selling a small, limited quantity. Example of this type of sale might be if you're trying to sell the tires of a broken-down car or if you've obtained several tires you plan to sell at once--not over a long period of time.

2. Apply for a Kansas City business license if you plan to sell tires at a retail or wholesale storefront. Download and print "Form RD-101" from the "Resources" section. If this is your first time applying to sell tires in Kansas City, you need only fill out the first page, which will require you to declare the period for which you need the license, provide your name, business name, business address and phone number and your Social Security number and/or Federal Employer ID Number (if you have one). Estimate the amount of sales you plan to make in a year and write the value into the first column next to "Retail." You must also write in the fee amount you'll be subject to pay, which is $25 as of November 2010. If you held a Kansas City business license last year, fill out page four of the document with last year's information.

3. Mail the form to the following address, making sure to enclose the aforementioned $25 fee:

City of Kansas City, MO

414 E. 12th St., second floor

Kansas City, MO 64106

4. Display your business license prominently in the place you plan to sell the tires once you receive it. This will ensure you're selling within the letter of the law.
