The science of chemistry allows people to study the operation of life at the atomic level. Many high school students who are interested in chemistry continue on to pursue a university degree in chemistry. Because paying for higher education can be challenging, there are a number of scholarships designed to help students with a passion for chemistry complete degree programs.
ACS Scholars Program
The American Chemical Society Scholars Program offers scholarships to minority students pursuing undergraduate degrees in chemistry or related fields. To be eligible, a student must be African-American, Hispanic, or American Indian, and must be a citizen of the United States. A student must also have a demonstrated financial need, and be carrying a grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Several awards of up to $5,000 are awarded every year. DOE Scholarship Program
The United States Department of Energy provides funds to undergraduate and graduate students studying several disciplines, including chemistry. Students must be U.S. citizens and be at least 18 years of age to be eligible. According to the DOE website, the purpose of these scholarships is to provide "the opportunity to explore a federal career with DOE at various stages in your education." DOE scholarships award stipends of up to $600 per week. Interested students should visit the DOE website for more information or to complete an online application.

AGI Minority Geoscience Student Scholarships
The American Geological Institute offers scholarships to undergraduate students studying a geological science, including geochemistry. Applicants must be full-time students, citizens of the United States, and of verifiable ethnic minority status in order to be eligible. Applicants must also be currently enrolled in a geoscience program; current high school seniors are not eligible. The amount of the awards varies by year.
