Apply For Different Scholarships Online

It is no secret that college is expensive. Average tuition costs range from $9,000 for public schools to over $35,000 for private schools per year. One way to defray tuition costs is to obtain scholarships. Scholarships are issued by schools, private individuals and foundations. Some scholarships are merit based, while others are issued for students who demonstrate financial need, have a disability or are members of certain groups. One of the most common ways to obtain scholarships is to search and apply for them online.

Instructions

1. Open your web browser and navigate to an online scholarship directory. An online scholarship directory is a website site that provides listings of a wide variety of available scholarships. See the "Resources" section for links to several popular scholarship directory websites.

2. Search for scholarship opportunities that you are qualified to participate in by browsing the available scholarships on the scholarship directory. Some scholarship opportunities require specific academic credentials such as a minimum grade point average or class ranking. Other opportunities require students to draft an essay on a specific topic or issue. You can also provide information about yourself such as your age, location, class rank, national heritage and the school that you plan to attend that will allow the scholarship directory to search for opportunities that match your personal characteristics.

3. Select an online scholarship opportunity by clicking on it. Read and satisfy the requirements of the online scholarship entry request. If an essay is required, make sure that it is on-topic and free of grammatical errors. Some scholarship opportunities will allow students to submit an application for an award directly through the scholarship directory website while others will request that students send application materials to a specific email address.
