Digital recording arts schools are becoming more common as the technology used in the music industry improves. A variety of potential recording careers, like sound engineering, are becoming more mainstream. Careers in this field include audio production for music albums, radio commercials, movies, and even video games.

Full Sail University (FSU) in Winter Park, Florida has a recording program that has been around for over 30 years. The program has evolved and changed with the upgrades in technology over the years, and continued to remain cutting edge. FSU has several top of the line studios for their students to utilize in learning about mixing boards, digital workstations, etc. The need for audio in video games has been increasing over the years, and students at FSU are able to experience the difficulties for video game and movie sound production first hand.

The Los Angeles Recording School


Los Angeles, California undoubtedly is one of the United States' most popular cities for the recording industry. The city is home to The Los Angeles Recording School, which allows students to strengthen their background in recording processes like multi-track recording and surround sound production. This hands-on program offers nearly 20 studio settings for their students. They are one of the few schools that are a Digidesign Certified Training Location. This allows students to use the Digidesign Pro Tools HD systems, among others, to produce and edit music. The program offers diverse courses in entertainment business, advanced digital audio, film sound and music production.

Middle Tennessee State University


Middle Tennessee State University, located in Murfreesboro, has the most substantial music technology and music business-related programs in the nation. With well over 1,000 students enrolled, the program turns out graduates who are well versed in music business, audio production and commercial songwriting. Students take part in internships to use their training in a professional setting and to make contacts with music moguls and others with the same interests. The school has six studios, along with rooms for post-production, editing labs, digital audio labs and audio maintenance labs.
