Become a Police Officer in Arizona
Arizona police officers patrol the streets of their respective communities, investigate crimes, apprehend and interview suspects, respond to emergencies, and perform a wide variety of other tasks with the objective of keeping law-abiding citizens safe. How can you become a part of this devoted group of law enforcement employees?
Instructions
1. Obtain a high school diploma or GED equivalent. You must also be 21 years of age and a U.S. citizen.
2. Apply to a specific police agency in Arizona. You can find a listing of these agencies from sites such as www.usacops.com/az/pollist.html.
3. Undergo a medical evaluation and a background check, which will include looking for drug-related and other criminal charges. You will also be given a character interview to see if you meet basic moral and ethical requirements to become a police officer.
4. Attend the police academy's 585-hour full-authority peace officer basic training course and pass the comprehensive final exam (CFE). You must obtain certification within 270 hours of beginning your training.
