What Are Community Colleges Close To Lexington North Carolina

Community colleges offer smaller classes, flexible schedules and affordable tuition.


Lexington, North Carolina is located in Davidson County. Those living in Lexington who are looking to stay close to home during college, or take evening courses, should consider community colleges. Many community colleges can offer transfer programs to larger universities, lower tuition and fees. Community colleges can be a better fit for students who are unsure of what to major in or desire smaller classroom sizes. There are community colleges near Lexington for students who prefer a school close to home.


Davidson County Community College


Davidson County Community College (DCCC) opened it doors in one location in 1958 as an industrial Education Center. Today, it has grown to two campuses with three satellite locations. DCCC offers evening and day classes in over 50 degree programs, including education, business and engineering. The college also has continuing-education classes for those who are not interested in receiving credit for coursework. The main campus, Davidson, is located 5 miles northeast of Lexington in Thomasville. The Thomasville Education Center, one of DCCC's satellite locations, is also located here. The Davie campus is located in Mocksville, about 20 miles northwest of Lexington. The Davie Education center, a satellite location, is about 25 miles northwest of Lexington in Advance. The Uptown Lexington Education center is located in the heart of Lexington.


Forsyth Technical Community College


Forsyth Technical Community College has five campuses in Winston-Salem, 21 miles north of Lexington. Forsyth has 190 degree, certificate and diploma programs. Forsyth also offers programs for high school students to earn college credit. Continuing-education classes are also available at Forsyth. Forsyth has developed employee training and development classes for employers who want their employees to have the skills they need to perform well.


Guilford Technical Community College


Guilford Technical Community College (GTCC) was founded in 1958 as the Guilford Industrial Education Center, where students could be trained for technical positions. In 1965, the school was allowed to offer associate degrees and became Guilford Technical Institute. With the addition of a college transfer program, the school became Guilford Technical Community College. GTCC offers more than 90 degree, 25 diploma and 75 certificate programs for students to choose from. The Jamestown campus is less than 25 miles northeast of Lexington. The High Point campus is less than 20 miles northeast of Lexington. Thirty-seven miles northeast of Lexington is the Greensboro campus. GTCC also has the T.H. Davis Aviation Center and Small Business Center, both about 35 miles northeast of Lexington in Greensboro.


Rowan-Cabarrus Community College


Rowan-Cabarrus Community College offers accredited degree programs and continuing education. Programs available include accounting, criminal justice, nursing and political science. RCCC has five campus locations. Two are located in Kannapolis, about 35 miles southeast of Lexington. South Campus and Cabarrus Business & Technology Center are located in Concord, less than 40 miles southwest of Lexington. North Campus is located in Salisbury, less than 20 miles southwest of Lexington.
