Conduct A Children'S Pageant

Children's pageant winner

Host a successful children's pageant to show off the wonderful children in your community. Pageants, which are widely known in the southern states, are designed to showcase talent, beauty and brains through various competitions based on age. Design a pageant that is themed to accommodate various ages and award prizes to children based on their performance, such as baton twirling or the best cartwheel, but not their looks.

Instructions

1. Choose a theme for the pageant. Children's themes can include "a formal affair," in which contestants wear fancy clothing and display proper manners, or "a talent contest" showcasing individual talents of the contestants.

2. Pick a venue for the pageant. The venue must include a stage and room for seating. If the children will need to change clothing during the pageant, there will need to be adequate room to do so, other than the main auditorium. Room also must be provided for contestants to wait during the performance. Possible venues may include a school auditorium or community center.

3. Draft an outline of the pageant prior to asking children to participate. You will need to know the date and time of the pageant, any categories (talent, formal wear, questions) you want to include, prizes and the entry fee. You also will need to finalize a time for the arrival of the children and when guests will start coming.

4. Create a flier to send to parents to invite them to enroll their child in the pageant. Fliers will need to list the theme of the pageant and the enrollment fee, if applicable. The flier also can include the list of potential prizes for the child.

5. Send an invitation to the community to attend the children's pageant. The invitation should include the address of the pageant, time, date, any other details and admission fee. Request a response to the invitation, with admission fee, if seating is limited.

6. Recruit volunteers to help coordinate the pageant on the day of the event. There will need to be a check-in booth, a volunteer to coordinate the children in the pageant, an announcer to introduce the children and someone to take tickets for admission at the door. Volunteers also will be needed to assist in cleanup once the pageant is finished.

7. Purchase prizes to give to the children. Determine if each child will receive something for participating, such as a ribbon, and buy trophies for the top three winners. Announce names of the children at the end of the pageant and present the ribbons and trophies.
