America'S Best Online Colleges

America's best online colleges offer degree and certificate programs.








Since 2007, the Online Education Database (OEDb) has been publishing a list of America's best online colleges. The database ranks each online college on criteria such as acceptance rate, graduation rate and financial aid. Some of the online colleges that make it on the OEDb list for 2009 also rank in the 2010 "U.S. News & World Report" Best Colleges list. The top five online colleges on OEDb's 2009 list offer students undergraduate, graduate and certificate programs.


Nova Southeastern University


Chartered in 1964, Nova Southeastern University is OEDb's number one online college of 2009. Nova's online college lies within the university's distance-learning program. Students can earn graduate certificates as well as undergraduate, graduate and doctoral degrees online. The Southern Regional Education Board's Electronic Campus certified 76 of the online degrees the school offers, according to Nova Southeastern University.

Regent University


Regent University, established in 1978 by Dr. Pat Robertson, ranks number two on OEDb's 2009 list of top online schools. Regent offers more than 30 undergraduate and seven graduate programs online. As a member of the Navy College Program Distance Learning Partnership, this Christian-based university provides online education for naval officers.

Champlain College


Founded in 1878, Champlain College ranks third on OEDb's top online colleges of 2009 and made it onto the 2010 "U.S. News & World Report" Best Colleges list. Champlain's online learning program offers different levels of education, including accelerated courses that last seven weeks. Online learning students can complete a certificate program, associate's, bachelor's or master's degree.

Upper Iowa University


Upper Iowa University ranks number four on OEDb's list of best online schools of 2009. The university's online learning offers five certificate programs, 17 majors in undergraduate degree programs and three master's degree programs. Students can enroll in the "two-at-a-time" curriculum, which lasts eight weeks, and enrollment occurs anytime during the year.

LeTourneau University


Founded in 1946 by R.G. LeTourneau, LeTourneau University ranks as the fifth top online college on OEDb's 2009 online college rankings list. The university is recognized by "U.S. News and World Report" as one of "America's Best Colleges," according to Letourneau's website. The online learning program offers students the chance to obtain an associate's degree, bachelor's degree, master's degree or a state of Texas teaching certificate.
