Easy & Weird Scholarships

Many weird scholarships give students the chance to succeed in school.


When searching for scholarships, apply for those that consider your academic merit and financial need. These may be your best bet for receiving financial assistance. However, a range of weird, nontraditional scholarships exist as well, and it probably won't hurt to try for one. Consider whether you have any unusual skills or qualities that could help you earn such a scholarship.


Chick and Sophie Major Memorial Duck Calling Contest








In this competition, high school seniors compete to find out who's best at calling ducks, says the Scholarships website. Competitors can live anywhere in the U.S., says the website, but they're required to register with the Stuttgart, Arkansas Chamber of Commerce. The winner will receive $2,000, and runners up will receive cash prizes as well, says Scholarships.


Stuck at Prom Scholarship Contest


The Duck Brand of duct tape sponsors a contest in which participants create formal prom attire from duct tape. High school students age 14 or older around the U.S. can participate by submitting photographs of themselves, and they must enter as a couple, according to the program website. The program awards each partner in the winning couple $3,000 for school.


Tall Clubs International Scholarship


At its annual conference, the Tall Clubs International awards scholarships to tall students who will be starting college in the fall, according to the program website. Scholarships total $1,000 each, and the number of scholarships may vary by year. Women must be 5'10" and men 6'2", according to the website.


U.S. Bowling Scholarship


Many bowling scholarships exist, such as the US Bowling Congress (USBC) Chuck Hall Star of Tomorrow Scholarship, which according to the U.S. Scholarship Guide website awards $1,250 to male students in high school or college. Other USBC scholarships provide funds for both women and men, according to the website.


Daughters of the Confederacy Scholarship


This scholarship goes to young women with ancestors who belonged to the Confederacy, if they can prove their heritage, according to Woman's Day. The official website states that local chapters set their own criteria and a student must be nominated by her local chapter.


Michigan Llama Association Scholarship


For those fortunate enough to have parents in the Michigan Llama Association, or to belong to it themselves, the association's scholarship fund may award $500 toward college expenses, according to the program website. Students can receive the award up to three times, the website says.


Other Weird Scholarships








According to the Huffington Post, The American Fire Sprinkler Association awards scholarships of $1,000 to five students who answer 10 questions about fire safety. The quiz has an open-book format, says the website. Additionally, according to the Scholarships website, any Catholic student with the name Zolp will receive a scholarship from Loyola University of Chicago if admitted to the university.
