Become A Kindergarten Teacher In Chicago

Even though Chicago's school district is the third-largest in the nation, getting a job as a teacher in Chicago is tough. According to an article in the Chicago Tribune, the city of Chicago hired 2,000 out of 25,000 applicants in 2008. The process to apply is fairly easy, requiring only one application to be reviewed by all Chicago public schools.

Instructions

1. Make sure you fulfill the requirements to be a teacher within the Chicago Public School system. According to the Chicago Public Schools website, to do this, you will need to be eligible for employment in the United States, have an Illinois teaching certificate and have completed an education program which required student teaching as part of its curriculum.

2. Fill out your online application as prompted by the site.

3. Upload a copy of your resume along with your application. For more on what your resume should look like and include, check out the Resources section below.

4. Search the job openings provided once you finish your application, and send your information directly to the principles of the schools with kindergarten teacher openings.

5. Follow up on your job search by contacting principals by calling or visiting schools after submitting your application. Meet with them and let them know why you are a prime candidate for teaching kindergarten specifically.

6. Look for private school listings as well. See the Resources below for some sites which list private school openings.
