Florida is primarily known as a vacation destination, with some of the best beaches in the nation. But aside from its sunny weather, Florida is also home to a number of top universities and colleges. If you're interested in being a collegiate cross-country runner in Florida, it's important to know what schools have cross-country programs, in addition to information about those schools.
University of Florida
Located in Gainsville, the University of Florida (UF) is ranked as the nation's 47th best school, making it the highest nationally ranked school in the state, according to "U.S. News & World Report." Enrollment is roughly 50,000, making UF one of the five largest schools in the nation.
The University of Florida competes in the ultra-competitive Southeastern Athletic Conference and carries an 18-person roster. With a head coach, assistant coach and volunteer coach, the team has regular coaching support. The team competes in the fall and usually fields teams in six events, beginning in September and culminating with the NCAA South Regional, which occurs in mid-November.

Florida State University
Florida State University (FSU) is located in Tallahassee, which is the state capital. The school offers 80 different major programs within its 15 schools. According to the school's website, enrollment is roughly 40,000 students, and it awards roughly 2,000 degrees each year, as of February 2010.
The Florida State Seminoles compete in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), and the men's cross-country team carries a roster of 22 student-athletes. The team competed in 10 events in the 2009-10 season, culminating with the NCAA championships in Terre Haute, Ind.

University of Miami
Located in Coral Gables, southwest of downtown Miami, the University of Miami is home to 15,000 students. Ranked as the 50th best university in the nation, according to "U.S. News and World Report," the university engages in roughly $300 million in research programs each year. With more than 180 different majors, the school has a major for almost any interest.
The University of Miami competes in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), and the men's cross-country team carries 11 runners on its roster. The team competed in six events during the 2009-10 season, culminating with the NCAA South Regional tournament. The men's team had its best finish in 2009 at the Greentree Invitational, finishing fourth.
